Ok, coming from the old school 1g world, with our factory composite gaskets and 12mm hardware that could withstand alot of boost pressure and could last through alot if you kept detonation down, I thought it would be neat to post up what you have done on stock Evolution headgaskets and hardware.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the factory Mitsu gasket on these cars are NOT a composite job, but a layered metal gasket from the factory. Hardware is the 11mm bolts similar to what is found in stock 2g stuff, and is torque to yeild.

Now, before we get into this, I would just like to mention I hear of alot of guys with these cars doing the ARP studs on these cars early, but do not pull the head off completely. Instead, they take each bolt out, and swap them out with a stud individualy. This is bullshit, and I have not the slightest fucking clue why you would do this, but I felt to mention that I don't agree with this method. If you feel otherwise, feel free to chime in.

Anyhow, how far have you guys pushed the stock hardware and gasket? What turbo were you using, how much boost, and how long?

If you have replaced your factory stuff with aftermarket gaskets, post up what you have experiance with and your thoughts.

I know the Felpro MLS is off the fucking chain, as is this new hardware (not to be confused by typical off the shelf ARPs) like these being sold by Magnus Motorsports. http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/engines/dsm.htm#Assembly_Hardware

With a ETS 57 Trim kit and a Magnus cast manifold we made 475 on an evo at with stock cams. The car runs 30 pounds of boost on 100% stock long block.

I noticed that on Magnus site there is an Evo headgasket listed for up the Evo that has been tested to 60psi. I presume this for a 4G63, are there badass ones for the 4G64? To keep a little closer to on topic, my bottom end is 100% stock and made 420whp on the stock turbo/E85 last time it dyno'd (a little better now) at only 28psi dropping to 22. On the Green and E85 it was good enough for 123mph traps at full weight, so 450whp maybe?

The EVO9 factory gasket is a beautiful stopper style setup, no need to change it for most of us.

Does the EVO 8 have a different "style" headgasket than the EVO 9? If so, what are the limitations of the EVO 8 headgasket and EVO 8 headstuds as opposed to the EVO 9?

Can the headstuds be changed safely with the head on the car with no ill results?

That is what we like to use on our cars and that's what i run w/ mine although i did decide to run copper o-rings in the block.

We regularly do that on the Evo's that come through the shop w/o ill effects just have to do them 1x1 in the proper sequence ;)

Do you guys run regular ARP or the L19s?

For a referance point my car went low 10's @ 137ish on stock headgasket and stock head bolts.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. I don't like the one by one method.

how much boost pressure have you ran through it and what kind of engine management are you using?

It ran the times in my sig on 32-34 psi If I recall right. Standard 35r. I have had it up to ~40psi peak but didnt get to the track before the turbo ate it self. I also ran the stock turbo to ~35psi peak daily before I put the 35r on it.

Stock ecu.

That is some serious boost. Your motor must have been put together by the hands of god himself.

I have 63,000 miles on my original stock head gasket and head bolts, only get that nice factory seal once!

Since about 7,000 miles I have now ran only E85 the last 56,000 miles. For the better part of 50,000 miles I have ran ~30psi on the IX turbo and the last 13,000 miles on an FP Red. 432hp/395tq on a dyno dynamics.
