This year, Myself & John Reed, Lucas and our head tech TJ, Jeff and Mysterio, and one of our other customers and another of his cars will be headed down for the Sept event.

As rookies we are going to get stuck going slow, but we are looking forward to a few of the events (in addition to the main event) that are offered:

Standing half mile (rookie status sucks)
0-100-0
The Big Deal

Our fuel of choice will be what we always run, E85 or E98. I was thinking in this thread that those who have run the event or have something to say about how they would set up an Evo or DSM for the event could share.

Lucas is going to run his car as is, Magnus Dual rail, sweet S-Tech springs, 8/9 hybrid tranny, 04 RS case, and AEM for control. 522whp

My car will have the 2.2LR MIVEC I am doing, a large unspecified FP, Magnus Dual rail, 04 RS case, 8/9 tranny, AEM, and either Apex'i Circuits or the H&R streets I have in it right now (not likely though). Some aero with thought and common sense in it. Power To Be Determined

Jeff has a 2G with an Eagle 2.3, JMF race, 1600s, K Sports, TRE Top speed tranny, DSMlink, and a Red. 519whp

Jim has an Evo with Red, Magnus single rail, 1200s, K Sports, Stock ECU, 2.0l, 6 speed, and whatever aero him and I devise. 508whp at 30psi

We'll have the selection of tires there as well, ranging from 245/40-17s on Lucas, 225/50-16 RA1s on Jeff's, 265/35-18 R888 on Jims, and either 255 or 265/35-18 Michelins on mine.

Thoughts, criticisms, etc. all appreciated.

My thoughts are that I am sad I wont make it down this year, but am stoked I will prob make it out the next year. I cant wait to start seeing your car come together for this. ER is really starting to take off in all aspects of the racing world.

Ramses if things go according to plan you should be able to co-drive for one of your next door neighbors in 2 years, as i am donating a shell for him to use with in the next week.

My father and I ran the Silver State back in 1993 in my AWD Talon. We took third in our class. Drove it there non-stop, raced it and drove it back, non-stop. It's a very cool event.

David, it so happens I remember the Turbo magazine that had your picture and an article in it from that event or one after maybe? What are your thoughts on setting up an Evo for this event at lets say the 140+ level? I have no doubts a stock Evo can easily finish the rookie 115 or 125mph first event and not even blink an eye.

It wouldn't take much to run an EVO at this event at 140 mph. My biggest concern would be simply keeping the RPM as low as you can so a gear change to the 3.73 gears would be my number one thing to do. It's a great event, a lot of cool people. Some very arrogant rich ones there too but you'll have that at an event such as that one. I think in 1993 the entry fee was $750, that was a lot then. Nothing to win but a trophy although it is the nicest trophy I have ever won. Made of black glass and shaped like the state of Nevada.

Make sure you visit the "Green Lattern" when you go there, if it's still there! haha

IIRC, the H&R suspension uses a 46mm strut insert.

If you unbolt it from the bottom, you can send the insert to Bilstein to revalve as you need for fairly cheap (it was $63 per last I heard) It'd be easy to get some 60mm or 2.5" springs to work as well, and those you can get from nearly anyone; but I'd stick with Hypercoil, H&R, or Eibach.

Dave Clark would be a good guy to talk to about this Aaron. He could even do the rebuild work for you too. He should be at the NW Region rally awards banquet this weekend if you're coming up.

Jason,

I know one of them is blown (RF I suspect) and the squeaking has never gone away even after H&R attempted a rebuild. My main complaint is the lack of independent height adjustability for corner weighting. Setting the corner weight with spring preload is not how I like to do it.

This weekend at the normal place, the Golf course by the base?

I don't see any problem with doing it that way as long as the amount of preload is taken into account when the suspension is designed. Tons of racers have been doing it for years and continue to do it because it's one less thing to fail.

For a (your) street car, you have the right amount from the manufacturer. Now that it's crossing the fence to race car, it'd be time to start consulting on the dynamic setup of the suspension: perfect travel and strut lengths, appropriate spring and valving rates specific to the type of racing that you're doing.

The suspensions that are available right now that have a separate collar to adjust the insert up and down tend to suffer from wearing out prematurely - inferior sealing, inferior components, etc. The only exception being the high-end Tein units like the N1 (and only the high end Tein, we've talked over my opinions of the lower priced Tein products).

When you come up on Saturday, I'll see if I can get ahold of one of the lower spring perches that the Porsche Cup and ALMS cars use. It's designed for more then just holding the spring. You'd love it's simplicity and effectiveness in what it does.
