Went up to the track rental today, with one goal in mind, learn to NLTS! My first couple of runs the plan was to simply start with the 2-3, as that seemed easy enough. It was, except my foot was still resting on the clutch pedal, which will activate the NLTS rev limit ( 6750 ), which resulted in a couple of low 11's @130 ish. I finally got a 2-3 down and the car went 10.7@129, but I shifted WAY to early on the 3-4. I was getting impatient and was about to unplug the cruise switch, Jewer was up there could tell I was about to give up. he basically said suck it up, this is why you are here, just keep trying!

On my next pass I made my mind up, I WOULD do the entire run with my right foot down. Well, I did it, finally, and wow the car felt much better. It ran a 10.50@136. Back in the pits I confirmed looking at the log and I did keep my foot down, problem was I shifted way to early on almost all shifts. It was getting late but I had time for one more run, and wanted to make sure I could repeat the NLTS. Next pass I was able to do it again and ran :

60' - 1.577
1/8 - 6.77 <<< new best
MPH - 109.40 <<< new best
1/4 - 10.40 <<< new best ( barely )
MPH - 141.13 <<< new best by a bunch!

I am thrilled with my results, just like everyone has been saying, the NLTS is huge on a larger turbo, and it feels natural ( finally ) to do. Cool I can't wait to go back and run again. I still need to work on shift points and faster shifting, but I believe I have this NLTS down! Wink Thank you Kevin for the pep talk when I was about to unplug the switch. Wink Also thank you Doug for getting the clutch pedal / engagement where it should be.

In case any one is wondering, this is still the stock, original short block. As in, original pistons, rods, and even bearings. :) I believe this now to be the stock internal 4G63 MPH record. Car weight ( with driver )was 2992. I am hoping to go back next week with some better air and lower the E.T. :)

That is awesome. I have been trying to get the nerve to NLTS my 2g. I think that may have convinced me. Congrats.

Nice! Congrats buddy.

I'll try and beat that time next time I go on the track.. haha

I think there should be a "stock internals" option on DSMTimes so we could keep track of this kind of info.

HA! You can still hear me starting one of my burnouts after your run, you can't cut me out of your video. Almost hurt my feelings... :D

It's about time you NTLSed like the rest of us (used to).

Congrats Mike!

Its not the et record though, Lee Evans went 10.0@133 on a stock shortblock 3 or 4 years ago in a automatic car.

If I put video of your car, my car will look like a slow turd and I cannot have that!! :) I also heard your car in the burnout but left it in anyway. ;)

Thanks John. I know all about Lee's time. ;) I believe there may have been another car that went 10.0 as well. I think it may be a MPH record. I am going to try and get closer to Lee's time next time out as the MPH is fun but I want a lower E.T. :)

Awesome Mike !!!! Congrats on the quick and fast pass.

per records-

I think Emery at STM ran 138 on a stock Evo bottom end. I believe Tom Hartshorn ran 9.6@144 on a stock 6 bolt in his FWD mirage though. I'll double check with Lucas to be sure.

Its a colt, sorry not a mirage.

An employee of mine went 140mph in his AWD 95 with a stock internal 6-bolt in it, so you have him beat.

I believe Tom Hartshorn was running 2g pistons, but all OEM Mitsu components.

Mike, regardless of what anyone else ran, great job, be proud. The car is one of the nicest DSM's left.

I'm not quite the NLTS Ninja that you are, I need more practice. :)

For sure...I am sorry I didnt mean to take away from the time because it is definitely AWESOME. If Kevin says 2G pistons I am sure it probably was. Clean, fast, and stock...deadly :)

Aaron no need to apologize. :) I just want to know if that MPH is the fastest. Either way I am thrilled with the way it ran and hoping to get back to the track this week to lower the E.T. ;)

My employee who went 140mph in his 2G put down 50awhp more on Saturday than when he went 140mph, but now his clutch is slipping. :)

How much boost are you guys running on stock 1G pistons?

I cracked my ringlands two times on only 30psi on a 16G evoIII.

ShaneZ

My employee is running an FP3065 35psi + 100 shot on E85 currently(it was around 33psi and a 75 shot when he went 140mph). It's all about the fuel and tune though, not the boost. You never want to get any knock at all when you are pushing things to the limits. We tune 30+psi on E85 with stock motor 1Gs, 2Gs, and Evos all the time.

Peak boost at 38 psi, then fell back to about 36-37. As Shane mentioned, no knock/detonation is key. My AFR's were silly rich ( low 10's ) but I don't dare lean it out. I may go back Friday, I think the car has a 9.9 in it. The air was sort of hot and humid last week when I ran that number, now it is fall like in the mid 70's.

Both times it happened to me I was setting a base boostline. Low timing and afr's high 10s to 11.0

So I gave up and built the block :o

Sweet, I'm going Friday too to test some new changes. I'll try to get someone to tag along and film again. You better run 9s or your failure will be on film forever.

I didn't make it to the track Friday, going to a rental next Wednesday. I heard Emery at STM ran 142.xx at the Shoot out in 2008, bone stock block in an EVO. I guess I have to go 143. ;)

I did just that. :)

Well it wasn't meant to be tonight. I went back to the track tonight to try and run that elusive 9 second pass. It didn't happen but I did manage a new best E.T. ( barely ) and a new best MPH.

It ran:

10.26@135
10.11@143.60!!
10.24@139
10.60@140

The track was going away and at that point I called it a night. It was only about 40 degrees out! On the last pass the car was all over the track through the 330', skating back and forth in the lane. I believe that MPH is a new stock 4G63 internal record. I will have one more shot next Wednesday. Max boost was about 37 psi with the Hallman maxed out. I got a new spring to try in it for next week. I think another 1-2 psi will get me where I want to be. :)

Congrats Mike! We tried to take our previously 140mph 6-bolt stock block 2G out last weekend to take out your 141mph time(I read that morning that you had went 143mph though). We upgraded the FP3065 on it to an HTA version and upped the nitrous shot. On the dyno were up 50-75whp over the power level it was at when it ran 140mph, but traction wasn't there at the track and it ended up blowing a weld out on the intercooler on the 2nd or 3rd pass. All the tracks around here and in nearby states are done for the season though. The question now is whether to build a motor for it over the winter or keep trying to blow up the stock 6-bolt.

Thanks Shane! I hear ya. Part of me wants to keep pushing mine but I think I am going to retire it and build a forged motor. I do have one more shot at the 9 second pass this Saturday, the last day of the season for my track. So far, the weather is looking good with temps in the 60's.

Best of luck to you Mike that is an amazing feat you guys are doing on the stock motor!

If you do go w/ a built motor over winter what's in store?
