better to Chip it with the E-prong or get into DSM link? Or have you heard of putting an Evo ecu into an older DSM?? Can then make all the changes you want.

Can you be a little more specific? What kind of car is it, and what are your goals? What are you trying to accomplish?

I think he's going for "which is better, DSMLink or a custom Eprom chip?" And then wants to know if the Evolution ECU can be used in a DSM.
At least that's what I get out of it....
DSMlink is better for the do-it-yourselfer that makes a lot of changes all the time. If you are sticking to one setup, then a chip will probably be fine.
While technically you could put an EVO ecu in a DSM, the harness and everything required to do it definitely makes it not worth it IMHO.

My friend and I are in the process of putting an EVO ECU in his 95 (non-eprom). There is a thread on Dsmtuners about it. He already got himself a patch cable and swapped the necessary wires. If you want the thread I will post up. IMO I think it is the best mod for the price, (ECU $100, ECUFLASH free, Tactrix cable $85, EVOSCAN $25) A complete tuning package for $210. Not bad at all.
Also using ECUFLASH is simple plus Tephra Mods rock!

What harness? For 2G swap pins around. 8 has same connectors as a 2G, 9 has different connectors, terminals are all the same.
Its the 1G pins and harness side connectors that are very difficult to source and are apparently no longer in production.

I would say link is more for the not-do-it-yourselfer. A DIYer would save like 400 bucks and learn how to do the EPROM tuning. If you get an emulator, you can tune and make the change in a few seconds with the click of a button. If all you want to do is fuel and timing map changes, using tunerpro is about as easy of tuning you can find. For link, until v3, they just had AFC-like sliders, well AFC's at least tune by load though and link's sliders were global adjustments. I prefer full 3D maps using TunerPro over wasting money on link or afc's.
A 2G uses the same ECU plugins as an Evo 8, but for a 1G it would involve quite rewiring new connectors in. The 1G's have a lot of info out there for EPROM tuning, so I think the 1G is the best ECU to tune on. You can do just about anything on a 1G with the information posted on the dsm-ecu yahoo group.
