Ever since I put this 62 on and turned the boost up I have been having problems with spark blowout. I had only been able to turn it up to 32-34 psi and was going through plugs every few 100 miles. I use a ngk bpr8es gapped to .018 any bigger and it blows spark out sooner.

The other night I wanted to try a known good coil setup as I was beginning to think I had a weak coil on mine. Fathouse was gracious enough for me to barrow his. I wanted to try it with the plugs that were being blown out around 34 psi on my coils. We went out and made a pull, clean. Turned the boost up to 36-37 made a few more pulls and it was clean. Left his house and went out for some pulls. The boost was spiking a little but noting crazy. It was missing out a little at first but got progressively worse as the night went on. By the end of the night I wasn't able to make boost at all without it breaking up. Other than at wot the car didn't seem to have a misfire.

I pulled the plugs last night and here are the pics. Does anyone see anything wrong?

Last night I put 4 new plugs in at .018 Boost at 37-38. Did a pull to 9k in 3rd gear on Fathouse's coils

6 pulls before a little break up was noticed. I only did one more pull after initial break up and it did it again but worse. Other than wot and right after the break up the car runs and drives fine. Any suggestions guys?

The BPR8ES series plug protrudes further down in the cylinder.

Try the NGK BR8ES - they protrude less into the cylinder.

Ill try that unfortunately I have to order everything. None local. Someone has offered for me to barrow a set of ngk platinum plugs for an evo nine. 9 heat range. Are the 8 and 9 plugs interchangeable? I don't know the dimensions of the evo 9 off the top of my head and he's a 40 min drive to compare

I assume if you don't change the settings in AEM, it won't run right, but I have to ask if you updated them.

also, what is your coil dwell set to?

edit: IIRC, evo9 plugs will NOT work in an 8.

When you say 8 & 9 plugs - do you mean heat range, or evo 8 & evo 9. The 8 & 9 heat range are inter-changeable however, 9 is only used for high high boost. The evo 8 and & 9 plugs are not inter-changeable (different heads).

You can buy those plugs off of Amazon. 2/2.50 a piece.

For DSM/Evo try BR8EG.

Is this 4 channel or waste spark? If its 4 channel need to tweak some dwell settings, waste spark you only have a limited dwell + recovery time available.

In a nutshell if your coils are inductive and you want to rev clean past 8500-9000 need to go 4 channel.

Whose COP? What timing/boost level at the actual misfire event?

I just changed to a IR plug. br9eix gapped to .024. It is still occuring but it seems to recover much quicker.

The cop is a sparktech non cdi. It also occured on a spoolin up but at a higher boost level.

it seems to come on around 7k rpm or so. It doesnt seem to show up in the logs. but the timing is showing 5.5 degrees in the log. I can send the aem log if anyone wishes to go over it. Thanks for all the help guys.

edit: I am still working on the settings for the boost control but it is holding steady between 37-39

5.5 deg of advance at 7000rpm? If the engine will take more timing give it to it. The closer to TDC that you try to ignite the mixture the harder it is to do.

However like wookie said you only have so much time to charge the coils.

br9eix gapped down to .020 seems to have fixed the problem. Did several pulls without a break up.

Boost has been up to 42psi, 2nd though top of 4th without a problem. Thanks guys for all the advice.

I was going to say BR9EIX FTW every time, gapped at .018

there is no other option
That's the problem you are going to have on alcohol, and you will wonder WTF is happening the plugs will look good, no amount of spark will light them.
