How about the 5:00am hour? Can't sleep. Been awake since 3:30.
Yesterday was a long day. First of all, thanks to Jim for continuing to SPONSOR the car. Jim, you're unbelievable. Next, we've been very well received by the Domestics here. Lot's of props and respect. Couldnt be better. Now, to the setup.
As some of you know, I dialed in 33 psi on the street and before that we were running 23-24psi falling to 20.6 psi on the only run we've made with the new FP Green setup. The 33 was made on FP RED actuator, preload and a little added pressure from a second actuator. My first attempt at boost control with a new idea and twist. What a time to try something, right?
Basically, I pulled the actuators off and re-worked them to make sure they remain smooth and constant. To do that, I removed a little preload and removed most of the secondary actuator pressure. This secondary actutor is controlled through an electronic boost control system that I'm activating through the AEM. I have it set to activate at any wheel speed over 0. This starts the timer and the 'stages' of the controller. Now you see why I'm taking my time with raising the boost. I'm learning a lot right now, but when it all comes together, I think I'll really have boost controlled. Get it? Ha, ha,I'm so funny when I'm loopy.
Back to yesterday. Settings were 28 psi falling to 24.6, launch has no 'secondary' pressure until 2.5 seconds. Basically, the run was made with 28 peak and 24.6 uptop. Problem, with the track loads being different than street, its a retune with only 1 pass all day. So now, I only have 2 passes total to try to dial in a brand new tune and setup. Not easy, but I'm doing my best. AFR's in the new load areas were safe, like 10.9 - 11.0, but timing was about 1 to 1.5 toomuch. So, I've pulled fuel from 6k to 7400 and pulled on click of timing at the onset of 'noise'. I've raised my 'inital' xxboost level to what I think is going to be in the mid 30's and we'll see what today brings. Timing being pulled caused our mph to be a little lower than expected, but first and only real, full pass with this setup netted us a 10.56 at 132.xx and a 1.42 60'. Car came out of the gate very smooth and clean with 17 psi in the tires and 2 step at 6900. I purposely wanted wheel spin, so now, I'll dial in the traction too. Rich told us yesterday that we may only get 2 passes today, so a QUICK dial-in-the-setup is absolutely mandatory. Pressure is on, but whatever happens, we've already run our quickest and fastest et's ever on the Green. Tony also ran his quickest 60, so we're not doing too bad for a single pass. Our Featured Car interview is today, so it's going to be a fun packed and full day. Cindy and Elizabeth have already made the 'camera crews' "PINKS ALL OUT", so today, it's Tony's turn. Met Rich and spoke with him a while. All in all, a long, fun day with lots of learning for me. Wish us well.

By the way, I thought it was kind of cool that Oval's 'statement' was "The Natural EVOLUTION". Maybe that's why we're there, I don't know, but I know with a Pallet of Rockstar and Oval Vodka I'm going to create my own "Natural Evolution" after this is over.

Thanks Tom, but it's your project that sells it's self. It's funny how this has not been done before with all the other cars and teams and how long they have been established. It has just been done through friendships spanning at least 15 years or more, and like I told you last night everyone could not be happier. Anything other than what has happened so far is just icing on the cake. I will be at the Indy Car shop working today on dampers and springs, but will have the bat phone with me. Good Luck, Jim
